Open HeartQuarters!
As schools crumble in Detroit,
a two story house transforms
into a CREATIVE LEARNING CENTER
for youth and families.

After 2 years of living and working in the Brightmoor neighborhood, STA bought and rehabbed a house. Superhero HeartQuarters is almost ready to open to the public!
In one year of operation, HeartQuarters will
- Host 52 Academy classes for youth (literacy, creativity, leadership, service)
- Host 12 Family nights (creativity, health, teamwork)
- Facilitate 6 expeditionary learning experiences (rock climbing, building, biking)
- Empower 2 families to do a community impact project
- Build phase one of an Adventure Playground
- Strengthen infrastructure of 2 local youth providers
- Provide living quarters for 1 STA staff and 2 part-time volunteers
- House 4 artist-in-residents that build a community driven art installation
- Train (x) number of volunteers for the Academy
- Be a place for heroes to gather and participate in creative solutions

To open HeartQuarters, we need to
1. Secure the space. Thanks to community support, we already have a security system.
Next -
- replace busted windows
- reinforce windows with 3M safety and security window films
2. Enrich the space
- Purchase adjacent vacant lots
- Finish the basement to create library, costume shop, workshop
- Library materials, art supplies
BONUS
If we get more $ than needed to open HeartQuarters, we will purchase a toolshed kit and build an outdoor shed. It would be used as a bike resource and house materials to build the outdoor adventure playground
